Embattled Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has officially joined the Peoples Democratic Party.
In its official Twitter page, PDP confirmed Obaseki’s defection.
Obaseki has reportedly announced his decision on Friday afternoon at the Edo State Secretariat of the party in Benin City.
Also, the opposition party has expressed happiness at the governor’s Decision.
In the tweet, PDP wrote: “Breaking News! The governor of Edo State, H. E. @GovernorObaseki has defected to our great Party, the @OfficialPDPNig.”
“The declaration was made this afternoon at the state Secretariat of our party in Benin city, Edo State. Power to the people. #EdoIsPDP. @officialKolaO”
Meanwhile, Obaseki accompanied by a crowd of supporters to the party’s secretariat was received by the state PDP chairman Hon Tony Aziegbemi and other party members, reports said.
Receiving the party’s card presented to him by the PDP ward 4 chairman, reports stated that Gov Obaseki assured the party of a cruise to victory come September when election will hold.
He was quoted saying that he believe in the party structure of the PDP from unit level to national level, and assured fellow party members that he will lead PDP to victory.
The state party chairman, Hon Tony Aziegbemi was reported saying that the PDP being a Democratic party will continue to believe in the new leadership of the party in the state which will be led by Gov. Obaseki.
