The Benue State Police Command has arrested some kidnappers and internet fraudsters terrorising the people in their various hideouts.
This is contained in press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Sewuese Catherine Anene on behalf of the Police Commissioner Hassan Steve Yabanet.
The statement revealed that a Benue links vehicle was conveying passengers from Onitsha to Makurdi and gunmen suddenly emerged from a nearby forest around Ojano-Oglewu and shot sporadically at the vehicle, causing the vehicle to stop at the forest.
It revealed further that the driver of the said vehicle sustained gunshot injuries that led to his death while the passengers were kidnapped.
But during investigation, nine victims were rescued while investigation continued and subsequently three (3) suspects, named Saleh Hassan, Yakubu Alhaji Kande and Yunusa Idris all of Keana LGA, Nasarawa state were trailed and arrested in connection with the case even as investigation was on going.
According to the statement, an information was received about a criminal hideout at Kigh village along Naka road and a team of police officers was detailed to raid the place.
The statement continued, that during the operation, one Philip Matthew, Haribu Jafai and John Ode Arubi were arrested.
Items recovered include 2 iphones, 5 laptops, different ATM cards suspected to be used for fraud and five (5) 9mm live ammunition.
The suspects confessed to be Internet frauds as seen on their phones and laptops. Investigation is ongoing.
The CP according to the statement also congratulated the Muslim faithful on the success of 2024 Eid-el- Kabir celebration and commended officers for their commitment during this period.
