A 35-year old suspected notorious car snatcher has been arrested by the Police for allegedly trying to steal a government Hilux vehicle at an ECWA Church in Rafin Zurfi area of Bauchi state.
The Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Police Command, Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a statement made available to journalists in the state.
He said that the suspect confessed to have snatched eight vehicles in Gombe and Kaduna states.
Wakil said: “On the 20th September, 2020 at about 8.15am, a team of Policemen drafted to ECWA Gospel Church, Rafin Zurfi, attached to ‘E’ Division Bauchi arrested one Abdullahi Mohammed, Male, (35) of Jeka da Fari in Gombe state, in the act dismantling the key system of a Toyota Hilux White in color with Registration No. BA-344-A01 attached to Government House Bauchi.
“He was arrested in possession of three master keys and two Hilux keys, when interrogated the suspect confessed to have committed the crime.”
The Police Spokesman added that the suspect revealed that “he is a professional car snatcher and confessed to have snatched about eight motor-vehicles – four in Gombe (two Civic cars and two Toyota vehicles) and four in Kaduna (two Toyota and two civic cars) and sold them in Niger Republic.”
He said that investigation is in progress after which the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution.
