A joint team of police operatives from the Bauchi State Police Command and a local vigilante group have killed two suspected kidnappers and injured one other.
The team also arrested nine others during a raid of the suspected kidnappers’ hideouts terrorizing residents of Alkaleri LGA of the state.
He said that Police operatives rescued a 70-year old man of Gayar Mukal village of Alkaleri LGA and a 45-year old woman in Durr village of Dass LGA of the State.
These were contained in a statement made available to journalists in the state on Friday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil.
The statement was entitled: “Bauchi State Police Command tackles crime, arrests suspected kidnappers terrorizing Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi State and rescued kidnapped victims.”
Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, said: “On 14th August 2022 at about 8.30pm, a joint team of police operatives in conjunction with a local vigilante group led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Maina-Maji Divisional Headquarters swiftly raided a suspected kidnapper’s hideout, neutralized two suspected kidnappers.
“They also arrested the following suspects: Ali Ibrahim, (20), Manu Abdullahi, (30), Damina Musa, (22), Yusuf Mohammed (32), Buba Abdu (25) and Buba Sulaiman (22).
“Others are: Isah Manu (25), Alhaji Suleiman Yusuf (46), Abdusalam (Deceased), Usman Alhaji Dadi (Deceased) (28) and Kabiru Alhaji Sa’adu (recuperating) (26).
“All the suspects are males and residents of Yelwan Duguri area Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
“The two suspects were certified dead by a medical doctor.
“The operation led to the release of one Alhaji Samaila, male (70) of Gayar Mukal village of Alkaleri LGA.”
He said that four motorcycles were recovered as exhibits from the suspected kidnappers.
The police spokesperson stated that during investigation, the arrested suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime, adding that the commissioner of police directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
“In another development, in line with the community policing and intelligence-led policing, on 23rd August, 2022 at about 12.00am, operatives of the command acting on credible intelligence in conjunction with a local vigilante group swiftly swung into action and engaged suspected kidnappers at Durr village via Dass LGA Bauchi State.
“Subsequently, the operatives succeeded in rescuing one Hussaina Mustapha Alias “Biyu” ‘f’ aged 45yrs of Durr village unhurt and reunited with her family.
“During the encounter, the suspected kidnappers took to their heels into the nearby bush.
“Meanwhile, the command is intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” he stated.
Also, the Commissioner of Police, Umar Sanda, has commended the efforts of the operatives and he encouraged members of the public to continue to dedicate themselves to sharing useful information with the police.
