Men of The Delta State Police Command have reportedly killed a suspected armed robber during a gun battle in Sapele on Saturday.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright, who disclosed this on Sunday in Warri, said that the suspect, known as Diamond or “Fowlboy’’, was member of a three-man gang terrorising residents of Amukpe Community in Sapele.
DSP Bright said that the Divisional Police Officer, Sapele Division, CSP Harrison Nwabuisi, received a distress call on Saturday that robbers were operating in the house of a resident in Amukpe.
“Nwabuisi immediately detailed patrol teams to the scene in conjunction with vigilantes. On getting there, the armed robbers engaged them in a gun duel.
“Fowlboy’’ was gunned down during the duel while others escaped with bullet wounds, he said.
He said items recovered from the suspect were one cut-to-size locally made gun, a military camouflage cardigan and seven cell phones.
DSP Bright said efforts were being intensified to arrest fleeing members of the gang.
