Registrar Nasarawa State University urges students to desist from hate speeches

The Registrar, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Alhaji Bala Ahmed, has urged students to desist from promoting hate speech using social media in the interest of peace and National development.

Ahmed made the call on Friday in Keffi at a one-day Ramadan Unity and Peace Summit organised by the institution’s Muslim Students Society of Nigeria(MSSN), for students of the institution.

The Registrar said that hate speech was inimical to societal development, hence the need for Nigerians to shun the negative act and always engage in peace promoting activities for national development to be achieved.

He commended the association for organising the event.

Ahmed stressed the need for Nigerians to continue to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliation.

He also called on the students to shun violence and other social vices in their interest and for the overall development of the country.

The Registrar assured the students of the management commitment to continue to promote high academic standard to make the institution one of the best nationwide.

He said that the institution has already set high standards that needed to be maintain and improved upon.

Earlier, Mr Abubakar Idris, the President of the MSSN, said that the association decided to organise he summit to educate both the Muslims and Christians students on the importance of religious and ethnic tolerance.

He said that the summit would also prepare the students to lead the campaign against religious and ethnic intolerance considering the importance of peace to societal development. (NAN)
