The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence and Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Anti Corruption, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has expressed shock over the capsizing of a boat in Wara, Ngaski LGA of Kebbi State, which led to the death of over one hundred persons.
NATIONAL ACCORD had reported on Wednesday that the boat was conveying over 160 passengers including women and children, while crossing The River Niger to a market before it capsized due to overloading.
Rescue efforts were reported to be on going by local divers to recover all the drowned passengers, with only 23 victims already rescued and taken to hospitals for treatment, while 5 dead bodies were also recovered .
Reacting to the sad development, Senator Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District, described it as not only very unfortunate but saddening and shocking.
The Senator prayed for the safe recovery of the yet to be found victims, as well as the speedy recovery of those already rescued.
Senator Wamakko also prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the souls of the deceased Aljannat Firdaus, and give their various families, people and Government of Kebbi State, the formidable fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.
