The Nassarawa State House of Assembly, which has resumed sitting after a long time break, on Tuesday committed two executive bills into first reading during plenary.
The first one was “A Bill For a Law to amend the Nasarawa State College of Nursing and Midwifery Law, 2021 and other Matters Connected Therewith”
The second bill was “A Bill For a Law to Amend the Number of Judges of the Superior Courts of Record Law 2001 and for Related Matters” both scaled first reading.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, announced the passage of the two bills into first reading during the House proceedings today in Lafia.
“A Bill For a Law to Amend the Nasarawa State College of Nursing and Midwifery Law, 2021 and other Matters Connected Therewith scaled first reading”
“Also, A Bill For a Law to Amend the Number of Judges of the Superior Courts of Record Law 2001 and for Related Matters scaled first reading. I therefore slate tomorrow 3rd May, 2023 for the second reading of the bills” he said.
Earlier, the majority leader of the assembly, Hon Umar Tanko Tunga, moved motions for the two bills to scale first reading.
On his part, Hon Abel Bala, the Minority Leader of the House, seconded the motions.
In a related development, the assembly has received report of the House Standing Committee on Judiciary, Ethics and Privilege on a Bill For a Law to Amend the Nasarawa State Area Courts Law 2022 and For Other Matters Related Therewith.
Hon Mohammed Ibrahim Alkali, who is the Vice Chairman of the Committee presented the report at the floor of the House.
The Speaker, then fixed tomorrow 3rd May, 2023 for the deliberation of the report.
