The United States Government has confirmed gunmen attack on its Embassy convoy in Anambra State, South East Nigeria, adding that none of its citizens were killed in the terrorists’ attack.
The U.S National Security Council spokesperson, John Kirby, stated this on Tuesday during a press conference.
Mr. Kirby said, “I just got informed about a whole lot before coming out here to talk to you all. It does look like a US convoy vehicle was attacked.
“What I can tell you is that no US citizens were involved and therefore there were no US citizens hurt.
“But we are aware of some casualties, perhaps even some killed, but I don’t want to get too far ahead of where we are right now.”
He added that the state department was looking into the issue.
NATIONAL ACCORD had earlier reported that no fewer than four persons have been killed by gunmen, who opened fire on the convoy of staff of U.S Consulate, in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Anambra State Police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday in Onitsha, said two mobile policemen and two staff members of the U.S Consulate on the convoy were killed and their bodies and vehicles set on fire.
He however said that no U.S citizen was in the convoy attacked by gunmen on Tuesday.
According to him, a Joint Security Force have embarked on a rescue and recovery operation to track and apprehend the gunmen.
