University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has lost one of its distinguished and renowned Professor from Mass Communication Department, Faculty of Social Sciences, in the person of Professor Mohammed Alhaji Gujbawu.
Prof. Gujbawu passed away in Maiduguri on Tuesday morning after battling a protracted illness which led to a stroke.
His funeral prayers took place around 4PM at their family house, Bukar Bolori Roundabout area by Oassis.
While the Islamic burial rite took place at Gwange Cemetery located along Bama road in Gwange area amidst large crowd from the university’s community, academia from Borno and Yobe states, business and Muslim community among others.
Late Gujbawu is survived by his wife and children and died at the age of 55 years, according to his family member.
The university don was a renowned author, publisher, researcher, media consultant and professor of Mass Communication.
Late Professor Gujbawu was also the former Head of Department (HOD) Mass Communication and Sub-Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Maiduguri.
He was also on secondment appointment as the Head of Department (HOD), Mass Communication Department, Borno State University (BOSU) Njimtili Maiduguri.
He also served in various capacity and committees within the academic circle as well as Special Adviser /State Party Secretary , Media and Publicity during former Borno State Governor, Senator Kashim Shettima.
