The remains of the Usmanu Danfodio University’s (UDUS) Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) on Research and Innovation, Prof. Yusuf Sa’idu, who was shot dead by suspected bandits have been laid to rest.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the funeral prayer was conducted on Tuesday at the Hassan Dan Ma’azu Jumu’at Mosque in Runjin Sambo area in Sokoto metropolis.
The prayer was led by Chief Imam, Muhammad Zakariyya and was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lawal Bilbis, Registrar and the Nururadden Dankingari, among other dignitaries.
The deceased died on Monday while travelling to attend an official assignment in Kaduna from Sokoto, where suspected bandits shot him and his driver dead, near Kucheri village, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara.
The incident threw the university community into mourning as the vice-chancellor described the deceased as a distinguished leader, a passionate researcher and a dedicated educator who made significant contributions to the university.
Bilbis said the university community would deeply miss the late Sa’idu saying, ” Prof. Saidu’s leadership was instrumental in advancing research initiatives and enhancing a culture of innovation across the institution.
” His exceptional commitment to academic excellence serves as an inspiration to us all, being completed gentleman with excellent human relations and supporting people.
” The University extends its heartfelt condolences to Prof. Saidu’s family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched. We pray Allah SWT grants him Jannatul firdaus, ” he said. (NAN)
