EHIME ALEX, Lagos
The newly appointed Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, said the state police command under his watch would take the battle of crime fighting to the den of criminals, using intelligence based techniques, executed by men of high integrity.
According to a release on Friday by the state’s Ministry of Information & Strategy, the new Commissioner stated this when he visited the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, alongside his predecessor, Kenneth Ebrimson.
Ajogun warned that any criminal who fails to repent would be apprehended and dealt with according to the law.
He also warned that the police command would not give room to anyone or group of people bent on destroying government properties under the guise of protest, adding that any form of violence protest would not be tolerated.
“I will take the battle to the den of armed robbers, traffickers and other criminals in the state. I have warned my officers that the public owns the police, it is beyond the issue of police is your friend, therefore, in the course of carrying out our duties, we should not get involved in any act that will make members of the public run away from us.
“We will not entertain protesters that will be violent and will want to destroy Government property or cause mayhem. I have said that I am going to deal with such situations decisively,” he said.
The former CP Ebrimson (retd) commended Governor Abiodun for his unalloyed support for the command in terms of logistics.
He also lauded the Abiodun-led administration for support towards ensuring that the state becomes a tough ground for criminals and safe haven for the people to live.
Ebrimson expressed optimism that the new Commissioner would continue to ensure a secured Ogun state that would be difficult for criminals to operate, calling on the new CP to sustain the tempo of security in the State
He added that it was on record that the Abiodun-led administration was able to improve the communication system, provide over 60 patrol vehicles, 366 walkie talkies, power bikes and steel helmets for the use of the police.
“There is no iota of doubt that he is going to sustain the very tempo and security architecture we tried to emplace in Ogun State, to ensure safety of the people of the state. I want to use this medium to thank the Governor immensely because we had serious security challenges on my assumption of office, particularly in the area of logistics and you gave us the tools to work with, so that we can meander tough terrains and also monitor the expressway during traffic gridlocks”, he said.
Responding, Governor Abiodun applauded the leadership of the former Police Commissioner, whose tenure, he noted, witnessed drastic reduction in crime and criminality such as cultism, kidnapping and armed robbery, commending him and other security heads in the state for rising to the occasion.
