From SADIQ ABUBAKAR, Maiduguri –
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State on Saturday supervised the distribution of building materials and cash to 1,111 families who will reconstruct their homes across 25 villages in Jere local government area.
The distribution was part of the state government resettlement policies even though the state government at many instances, built and reconstructed thousands of homes and capital projects for the IDPs especially in the Borno central and Borno north.
Each of the 1,111 families empowered for had at least six family members and were expected to return to safety back to their communities that they lived before they were displaced years ago by tj book haram insurgents.
At a brief ceremony which took place in Yawuri each household, received building materials and cash to renovate their houses and continue with their livelihoods.
Zulum however assured the communities of Government’s continuous assistance in ways that will boost their access to livelihoods in farming , especially, irrigation, using the advantage of potentials of the shores of the Alau Lake.
The governor also promised to construct a new school and a hospital for the communities .
The returning communities had been taking refuge in some parts of Jere Local Government and Maiduguri Metropolitan for over 3 years.
Commissioner ot Reconstruction, Resettlement and Rehabilitation, Engr. Mustapha Gubio informed the Governor that only displaced persons who indicated interest to to return home were listed for the self-reconstruction and empowerment.
Zulum was also at Dalwa, a community in Konduga Local Government Area to inspect ongoing construction work of 5000 he houses meant for the IDPs being carries out by the Borno State Ministry Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR) where already the ministry has mobilised to site for construction of the 500 houses.
