Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has issued a 3 weeks ultimatum to staff of the Umar Ibn Ibrahim College of Education to resume academic activities in Bama or risk being transferred to secondary schools or outright dismissal.
Governor Zulum, who gave the ultimatum on Friday when he paid an unscheduled visit to the institution in Bama town, the headquarters of Bama Local Government Area, of Borno State, said “I give you now to 1st November, 2021 to commence academic session here in.Bama or risk transfer to secondary schools or outright sack”.
“I also give the students now to 1st November, 2021 to resume school or risk transfer to MOGOLIS, College of Education, Waka Biu or consider themselves withdrawn from the school “, Zulum said .
Zulum further said: “this is the third time I am directing you to relocate to Bama but you refused to comply. I am a professor, and former administrator of higher institution, there is no way I will allow education to rotten under my watch. If anybody is ready to teach should come here, to Bama and anybody who is not willing should leave..Many people are looking for Jobs out there”.
“If you ( Provost) don’t have the capacity to run the school, I will change you and bring somebody who will run the school better. I have been hearing, what you have been saying, you don’t want to be relocated to Bama, anybody who is not willing should leave”, Zulum added.
The governor further said ,” it seems you are not ready to serve your father land . I am also directing the Commissioner of Education to conduct verification of the academic and non academic staff of the institutions. Anybody who doesn’t have the required qualification is not suppose to teach.”.
He also directed the registrar of the college to open attendance register for the staff to sign every day..
Meanwhile, while at the Shehu of Bama’s Palace,, the Governor told the monarch that he was on a LGC working visit to his domain, where he spent two days in Banki town and distributed food items, cash, as well as visited schools and hospital in Banki with a view to address the challenges faced by the residents of Banki.
Responding, the Shehu of Bama, Umar Shehu Kyari Ibn Ibrahim El kanemi, thanked the governor for the visit and support to Bama LGA and the state in general.
