President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, as Director of the Air Mobilisation Directorate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election.
The appointment is expected to strengthen the party’s logistics and air transportation planning as it prepares for a nationwide re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential poll.
A statement issued on Sunday by Keyamo’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood, said the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has been named Deputy Director I, while Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar will serve as Deputy Director II.
According to the statement, the appointments reflect the importance of aviation logistics in coordinating a nationwide presidential campaign across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
The statement explained that the Directorate of Air Mobilisation will coordinate air travel for campaign officials and personnel, while ensuring effective planning and smooth movement during campaign activities.
It added that the directorate would work closely with other campaign structures to improve operational coordination, maximise available logistics and ensure compliance with aviation regulations and electoral laws.
The statement noted that Keyamo’s experience as the nation’s aviation minister would be an asset to the campaign.
“His familiarity with the operational demands of the aviation industry is expected to provide useful leadership in coordinating the directorate’s activities and establishing an effective framework for air-mobilisation planning.”
It also highlighted the appointments of Kuku and Umar as a boost to the directorate’s technical capacity.
“The appointment of Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku and Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar as Deputy Directors also brings aviation-sector leadership and technical experience into the directorate, strengthening its capacity to address the planning and coordination demands associated with nationwide campaign movements.”
The statement further stressed the importance of air transport in supporting political campaigns.
“Air transportation is an important component of national campaign logistics, particularly where campaign leaders and officials are required to cover multiple locations within compressed schedules.”
It added that the directorate would focus on structured planning and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
“The Directorate of Air Mobilisation is expected to support the broader campaign organisation through structured planning, coordination with relevant stakeholders, efficient scheduling and appropriate logistical arrangements.”
The statement also emphasised the need to separate campaign activities from official government responsibilities.
“Its effectiveness will depend on collaboration with other campaign directorates, clear operational procedures and strict compliance with aviation safety requirements and all applicable laws governing political campaigns.
“The directorate’s activities will also be expected to maintain a clear distinction between campaign operations and official government functions, ensuring that campaign-related arrangements are undertaken through properly authorised channels.”
The APC Presidential Campaign Council is coordinating preparations for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid through various directorates responsible for mobilisation, logistics, communications and other campaign activities. The Air Mobilisation Directorate is expected to provide aviation support to help the campaign move personnel and officials efficiently across the country during the electioneering period.
