2027 NDC Presidential candidate, Peter Obi
Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has declared that he was prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice alongside Nigerians committed to rescuing the country, as he urged supporters to remain resolute ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Friday during a town hall meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Obi encouraged party faithful and supporters not to be intimidated by the political atmosphere, insisting that the struggle to rebuild Nigeria would require courage and determination.
Responding to chants from supporters expressing their willingness to sacrifice for the cause, the former Anambra State governor said he shared the same commitment.
“Don’t be intimidated,” Obi said. “Somebody said, ‘We are ready to die.’ Let me tell you, I’m equally ready to die. So you’re not alone.”
Obi stressed that the immediate responsibility of Nigerians was to ensure that every legitimate vote counts, calling on citizens to remain vigilant and actively protect the integrity of the electoral process.
“All they want is for you to defend and demand that the vote must count. And that is the demand we are going to make, and make aggressively,” he said.
The NDC presidential candidate acknowledged concerns over possible attempts to manipulate future elections but maintained that such efforts would meet stronger resistance than in previous polls.
“Yes, they will try to manipulate it. But let me tell you, it will not be easy this time,” he said.
He also urged Nigerians to take ownership of the campaign for national renewal by participating actively in political activities, regardless of their personal circumstances.
“So if your hands are short, go to that campaign, believing that all of us will rescue our country,” Obi said.
Obi warned that failing to confront electoral malpractice would only deepen the country’s governance challenges, arguing that many of Nigeria’s current economic and social problems were rooted in poor leadership.
“By allowing them to continue, that glitch will glitch our life. That’s why we are suffering today,” he said.
He concluded by linking the country’s leadership crisis to the challenges facing key national infrastructure.
“Our refinery is bad because our leadership is bad,” he said.
Obi’s remarks come as political parties continue consultations and grassroots engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections, with campaigns expected to gather momentum in the coming months.
