Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) will on Monday unveil its National Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections and publicly present its financial statement as the party intensifies preparations for the nationwide polls.
The announcement was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, who said the activities would take place during the NDC’s third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for 10 a.m. at the JD Event Centre, Kashim Ibrahim Way, opposite A-Class Park, Maitama, Abuja.
The party will also present certificates of return to its presidential, governorship, National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly candidates.
According to the statement, one of the major highlights of the meeting will be the presentation of the party’s statement of account by the National Treasurer, a move the NDC described as a demonstration of transparency and accountability.
“A major highlight of the meeting will be the release and presentation of the party’s Statement of Account by the National Treasurer. This reflects our commitment to transparency and accountability. In this regard, we challenge other political parties, especially the ruling All Progressives Congress, to emulate this level of openness and transparency in the management of their finances. For the NDC, it is no longer politics as usual,” Director said.
The party also explained that its financial position had been affected by the country’s economic challenges, blaming the APC-led Federal Government for the hardship facing many Nigerians.
Director disclosed that about 80 per cent of the party’s candidates were unable to pay for Expression of Interest forms because of the prevailing economic situation, forcing the party to issue the forms free of charge.
“Our finances would have been more robust. However, contrary to speculations in the public domain, and due to the level of poverty, hunger and deprivation in the country occasioned by the rudderless APC and its amorphous economic policies, about 80 per cent of our candidates could not afford the Expression of Interest forms. The party had to issue forms to such candidates free of charge,” he stated.
The statement added that the National Campaign Council would coordinate campaigns for the party’s presidential, governorship, National Assembly and state assembly candidates as the NDC moves to strengthen its structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The NDC is turbo-charged and ready to give Nigerians the altruistic leadership the nation deserves. A New Nigeria is Possible. We can do it!” the statement added.
Monday’s unveiling comes after the party postponed the inauguration of the campaign council earlier fixed for October 20, citing the busy schedule of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and an important engagement outside the country.
The rescheduled NEC meeting is expected to ratify key campaign plans and strategies as the NDC begins full mobilisation for the 2027 general elections.
