Taraba State Governor, Kefas Agbu
Association of Retired Local Government Civil Servants in Taraba State has declared its support for Governor Agbu Kefas’ bid for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The retirees said the governor’s approval of pensions for local government retirees in line with the new minimum wage, which took effect in June 2026, demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of pensioners.
Speaking with journalists in Jalingo on Friday, the Chairman of the Local Government Retirees Association in Bali Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdulaman Musa, said Governor Kefas had shown genuine concern for retirees, adding that they were ready to reciprocate the gesture with their votes in 2027.
According to him, the improved pension package has restored confidence among serving local government workers, assuring them of a better life after retirement.
Musa also attributed the retirees’ endorsement of the governor to what he described as the administration’s developmental strides, including the construction of roads across the state, the renovation of general hospitals, and the introduction of free and compulsory education.
“We have not seen it this good in Taraba, as local government retirees, our pension was approved at minimum wage level, we are all happy, we want the governor to continue come 2027.”
He added: “With this development, people will be happy to retire from service, nobody will like to falsify age or number of years in service any longer, the reason people do it is the fear of getting out of service without anything to feed families or attend to other needs, now that our gratuity is going to be set, our pension is reasonable, I believe the happiness will go a long way,” Musa said in Hausa language.
The retirees maintained that the governor’s policies have improved their welfare and expressed confidence that his administration should be given another term to consolidate on its achievements.
