The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State has said it will base its campaign for the 2027 governorship and State House of Assembly elections on the achievements of Governor Uba Sani’s administration rather than personal attacks on opposition parties and their candidates.
The party also pledged to conduct a peaceful, credible and issue-based campaign, saying it would respect all political parties and the electorate throughout the electoral process.
Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna on Wednesday, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Mohamed Sani Haruna, said the party had commenced preparations for the campaign by meeting publicity secretaries from the 23 local government areas of the state.
Haruna said the party was determined to ensure that its campaign was devoid of acrimony and insults, stressing that APC would engage the electorate on issues of development and governance.
“APC in Kaduna State is committed to a free, fair, credible campaign and election. We intend to conduct our campaign without acrimony, without insult, in the best manner possible,” he said.
He said the party would rely heavily on the performance of Governor Uba Sani since assuming office, insisting that the administration had fulfilled a substantial part of its campaign promises.
“We are proud to sell the achievement of Senator Uba Sani as the governor of Kaduna State,” Haruna said, listing education, healthcare, sports and skills acquisition among sectors where the administration had, according to him, recorded significant progress.
On education, the APC spokesman said the government had reduced tuition fees in state-owned tertiary institutions by 50 per cent and reintroduced scholarship programmes.
He said the measures were aimed at making education more accessible to residents, particularly students from less privileged backgrounds.
“When he became the governor of Kaduna State, school fees for tertiary institutions in Kaduna State was beyond the reach of the common man. Senator Uba Sani reduced by 50 per cent tuition fee for all tertiary institutions in the state,” he said.
Haruna also highlighted the administration’s investments in the health sector, saying general hospitals across the state had been renovated, upgraded and equipped to improve healthcare delivery.
He cited the reconstruction of Ahmadu Bello Stadium and the renovation and upgrading of Kaduna Township Stadium as part of the government’s achievements in sports, adding that athletes and sporting teams had also received support.
Responding to criticism by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate over the crisis at Kaduna State University (KASU), Haruna rejected claims that the Uba Sani administration had neglected education.
He argued that industrial disputes in universities were not peculiar to Kaduna, noting that university workers had the right to embark on industrial action when they felt aggrieved.
“One good thing about this government is that we have a democrat as a leader who believes that you, as a human being, no matter despite the good things he has done for the university in particular and for education in general, yet if some people feel aggrieved, they have a right to exercise that through industrial action,” he said.
The APC spokesman further claimed that the state government had provided financial support to KASU and engaged university workers over outstanding allowances, maintaining that the recent crisis was largely linked to the relationship between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the university management.
Haruna also said the Sani administration had increased budgetary allocations to education compared with previous administrations.
Beyond the state elections, he said the APC would campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election, describing the President and Vice President Kashim Shettima as “passionate patriots” committed to the development of Nigeria.
