NNPC boss Bashir Ojulari
Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), Bashir Ojulari, has welcomed the Final Investment Decision (FID) on the $800 million Ima Gas Project, describing it as another major boost for Nigeria’s gas industry and investment drive.
Ojulari made this known in a post on his official X handle on Saturday, where he praised the partnership behind the offshore gas project and highlighted its expected contribution to the country’s energy sector.
He wrote: “NNPC Ltd. welcomes the $800m Final Investment Decision on the Ima Gas Project, developed by AMNI International with TotalEnergies, offshore OMLs 112 & 117. Up to 300 mmscf/d at peak, feeding NLNG’s Train 7 expansion (22 → 30 Mtpa).”
The NNPC boss noted that the project is the fourth major gas Final Investment Decision recorded under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to him, “The 4th major gas FID under President Tinubu, after Iseni, Ubeta & HI, unlocked by the 2024 Presidential Directives on non-associated gas.”
Ojulari said the project reflects the growing confidence of investors in Nigeria’s gas sector and demonstrates what can be achieved through strong collaboration.
He added: “Indigenous operator. International partner. Nigerian capital. A model worth repeating.”
He concluded his message with: “Certainty attracts capital.”
The Ima Gas Project is being developed by AMNI International in partnership with TotalEnergies on offshore Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) 112 and 117. At peak production, the project is expected to supply up to 300 million standard cubic feet of gas per day to support the expansion of Nigeria LNG’s Train 7 from 22 million tonnes per annum to 30 million tonnes per annum.
The latest investment is expected to strengthen domestic gas production, improve feedstock supply for liquefied natural gas exports and create new opportunities for economic growth, jobs and increased foreign investment in Nigeria’s energy industry.
The announcement also comes as the Federal Government continues to push reforms aimed at attracting fresh investments into the oil and gas sector, with officials maintaining that policy certainty and regulatory improvements are encouraging more Final Investment Decisions by local and international investors.
