Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has stepped up its air operations against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminality across the North-West by reinforcing its air presence in Sokoto State to support ongoing joint military operations.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, who said the move underscores the Air Force’s resolve to sustain pressure on criminal elements and strengthen security operations in the region.
According to the statement, the enhanced deployment is aimed at improving aerial surveillance, ensuring rapid response to emerging threats and providing effective air support for troops operating within the joint operations area.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to deploying airpower in support of military operations across the country.
He said, “The NAF would continue to optimise the employment of airpower to deliver decisive effects in support of ongoing joint operations.”
The Air Chief added that the changing security landscape demands greater coordination between intelligence gathering, air operations and ground forces.
He noted, “The evolving security environment requires a combination of timely intelligence, responsive airpower and seamless integration with surface forces,” stressing that the Service remains committed to maintaining operational readiness and ensuring that hostile elements are denied the freedom to threaten innocent communities.
The Nigerian Air Force also appealed to members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist ongoing operations against terrorists and other criminal groups.
