Tottenham Hotspur’s Carabao Cup campaign has come to an early end after Liverpool beat them 3-1 at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Liverpool took control in the first half when Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring in the 21st minute.
Cody Gakpo extended the lead nine minutes after the restart, putting Liverpool 2-0 ahead before Tottenham responded through Conor Gallagher in the 69th minute.
Gallagher’s goal gave Tottenham a route back into the game, but Liverpool held firm before Dominik Szoboszlai settled the contest with a 91st-minute strike.
The result ends Tottenham’s run in a competition they could have used to add another trophy to their collection after ending a 17-year wait for silverware by winning the Europa League in May 2025.
For Roberto De Zerbi’s side, the defeat means attention now shifts to their other competitions, while Liverpool move on with their Carabao Cup campaign still alive.
Tottenham have also now extended their long wait for a League Cup win at Anfield, having last won there in the competition in 2006.
