Joao Pedro has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for August after making an impressive start to his Chelsea career. The Brazilian forward scored twice and provided two assists in three league appearances during the month, playing a key role in Chelsea’s strong start to the campaign. His standout performance came in the 5-1 win over West Ham United, where he scored once and set up two goals. He then found the net again as Chelsea defeated Fulham 2-0. Joao Pedro’s form has quickly made him an important part of Chelsea’s attack under new manager Xabi Alonso, with his ability to play through the middle or drop deeper giving the team another dimension going forward. His understanding with Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers has also added more threat to Chelsea’s attack, with the trio already showing signs of a productive partnership. The award is another highlight in what has been a rapid start for Joao Pedro since his move from Brighton. He also became only the fourth Chelsea player in the Premier League era to score five goals in his first five starts for the club, joining Diego Costa, Alvaro Morata and Tammy Abraham. With Chelsea entering a new era under Alonso, Joao Pedro’s early impact has given the club another reason to believe they may have found a player capable of leading the attack for years to come.
