Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to consider
in the ongoing Initial Public Offering (IPO) of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
Obi made the call in a post on X on Wednesday while sharing his views on the refinery’s public offering.
He said many Nigerians had asked him for his opinion on whether they should invest in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO.
“While encouraging them to buy, I must say that I remain very proud of the commitment and breakthrough of Alhaji Aliko Dangote’s investment in the real sector of our country’s economy, across different sectors,” Obi said.

He described the investment as an example of the need to move Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy to one focused more on production.
According to him, the development also reinforces his long-standing position on the need for greater investment in productive sectors of the economy.
“This validates my position that we should move Nigeria from consumption to production,” he said.
Obi also encouraged other Nigerian businesses to invest in productive sectors and expand opportunities for citizens to participate in the country’s industrial development.
“I, therefore, encourage other Nigerian businesses to invest in the productive sectors of the Nigerian economy and also give fellow Nigerian citizens the opportunity to be part of the re-industrialization of the country by offering their shares to the public through public offerings,” he said.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, owned by Aliko Dangote, is one of Nigeria’s major private-sector investments in the oil and gas industry.
Obi’s comments come as the refinery moves to raise capital through its IPO, providing members of the public with an opportunity to acquire shares in the company.
He said greater participation by Nigerians in productive investments could help deepen local ownership and support the country’s industrialisation efforts.
