The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 1 Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase, has hosted a colorful send-off ceremony to honour discharging personnel of the Division.
The event, which took place at the 1 Division Auditorium on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, was organized to celebrate the retiring personnel for their decades of dedicated service, unalloyed loyalty, and profound sacrifices to the nation.
Speaking at the occasion, Major General Wase commended the retiring personnel for their steadfast commitment and invaluable contributions to the Nigerian Army.
He emphasized that the ceremony underscores the deep bond and esprit de corps that exist among army personnel, transcending rank and file.
The GOC explained that the gesture was a reflection of the institutionalized culture of the Nigerian Army leadership to collectively appreciate personnel who have served the nation meritoriously.
He further advised the retirees to judiciously invest and manage their retirement benefits as they transition into civilian life. While assuring them that they remain integral members of the Nigerian Army family, he urged them to maintain their ties with the military community and uphold the high standard of discipline they were known for.

MWO Oche Sunday (Chief Clerk, Headquarters 1 Division)
Warrant Officer Obile Mu’azu (Headquarters 1 Division)
Mr Oyagha Theophilus (1 Division Finance)
Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the retirees, MWO Oche Sunday expressed deep appreciation to the GOC and the entire leadership of 1 Division. He thanked the command for the opportunity to serve, as well as for the guidance, mentorship, and unwavering encouragement received throughout their careers.
MWO Sunday noted that the rich experiences and memories garnered during their service would remain invaluable assets as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.
The memorable event culminated in the presentation of special gifts and souvenirs to the retirees, followed by a series of group photographs to commemorate the milestone.
