Former President Goodluck Jonathan has congratulated His Majesty, King Charles Douglas Macpepple Jaja, Jeki VI, on his coronation as the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, describing the event as a significant moment in the history of the ancient Rivers State kingdom.
Jonathan, in a goodwill message released after attending the coronation ceremony, said he and his wife joined a delegation of traditional rulers from Bayelsa State to celebrate with the Government and people of Rivers State, royal fathers from across Nigeria, friends, well-wishers and the people of Opobo Kingdom.
The former President said the Opobo Kingdom holds a unique place in Nigeria’s history because of the legacy of the legendary King Jaja of Opobo, whose life reflected courage, enterprise, resilience and outstanding leadership.
He expressed confidence that the new monarch would build on that rich heritage by promoting peace, unity and development in the kingdom.
“As Your Majesty begins this important chapter of service to the Opobo Kingdom, my prayer is that your reign will be marked by unity, peace, progress and prosperity. May it be a reign that brings people closer together, preserves the dignity and heritage of Opobo, strengthens the bonds of friendship and understanding, and advances the development and well-being of the people,” Jonathan said.
Congratulating the traditional ruler, the former President added: “Your Majesty, on behalf of my family and myself, I extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes on this historic occasion.”
He also prayed for God’s guidance and strength for the new king.
“May Almighty God grant Your Majesty the wisdom to lead, the courage to serve, the patience to unite, and the grace to build a legacy that will endure for generations to come. May your reign be long, peaceful and prosperous,” Jonathan stated.
The coronation of King Charles Douglas Macpepple Jaja, Jeki VI, marks a new era for the historic Opobo Kingdom, one of the Niger Delta’s most respected traditional institutions. The kingdom traces its roots to the legendary King Jaja of Opobo, whose leadership and commercial achievements remain an important part of Nigeria’s history.
The event attracted government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders and dignitaries from across the country, reflecting the importance of the Opobo Kingdom in Nigeria’s cultural and traditional landscape.
