Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal
Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has urged Nigerians not to lose hope despite the country’s economic and security challenges, saying the nation’s problems can be overcome with the right leadership.
Tambuwal, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the appeal in his message marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. He said Nigerians should use the occasion to reflect on the country’s journey and renew their commitment to building a better nation.
He said, “Nigeria’s present difficulties must not become its permanent reality. Therefore, this 66th Independence Anniversary should serve not only as a celebration but also as a moment for reflection and renewed commitment to nation-building.”
The former Speaker of the 7th House of Representatives acknowledged that many Nigerians are facing serious hardships, including rising poverty, unemployment, insecurity, high cost of living and economic difficulties.
According to him, “These challenges are real and confronting millions of Nigerians. They ask whether the promise of independence has yet translated into the quality of life, opportunity and security many citizens deserve.”
Despite the situation, Tambuwal expressed confidence that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges because of the resilience and determination of its people.
He said, “Nigeria will be rescued. A new Nigeria will emerge. I envision a Nigeria where leadership is accountable to the people, every child has a fair opportunity to fulfil their dreams, diversity becomes a source of strength, and security, justice, prosperity and opportunity are available to every citizen. We must not give up on Nigeria.”
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the senator urged Nigerians to participate actively in the democratic process and carefully assess those seeking public office based on their competence, character, capacity, track record and plans for the country.
Tambuwal said Nigeria could achieve lasting progress through responsible leadership, strong institutions and a united people working towards a common goal. He added that the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers should inspire citizens to build a better future.
He concluded with a message of hope, saying, “A better Nigeria is possible. A new Nigeria will emerge.”
