Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu
Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has urged politicians to make the 2027 election campaigns issue-based by focusing on their achievements instead of attacking opponents with insults and provocative language.
The governor said his administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC) would seek another mandate by presenting completed, ongoing and newly initiated projects to the people rather than engaging in abusive campaigns.
Speaking in Sokoto on Friday, Governor Aliyu appealed to all political actors to conduct themselves peacefully and respect the dignity of every citizen during the electioneering period.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Abubakar Bawa, said the governor also directed APC supporters in the state to remain law-abiding and carry out their political activities in line with the law.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state will rely on the people-oriented projects executed by this administration to seek re-election in the forthcoming general elections,” the governor said.
Aliyu said the APC had many achievements across Sokoto State and would present them to voters while seeking another term to continue its development programmes.
“We will ensure decorum in our campaign language and refrain from insulting anyone. Just as our administration would continue to listen to the yearnings and aspirations of the people and remain responsive to their needs in the overall interest of the state’s development.”
The governor challenged opposition parties to tell voters what they achieved while in office instead of engaging in what he described as campaigns of calumny.
He also warned politicians against using freedom of expression as an excuse to violate the rights and dignity of others during political campaigns.
Aliyu thanked the people of Sokoto State for their continued support and confidence in his administration and assured them that his government would continue to protect the rights of every citizen.
“We owe it a duty to protect our dear state from anyone who seeks to destroy it.”
With political activities expected to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, stakeholders have continued to call for peaceful, issue-based campaigns that will strengthen democracy and promote credible leadership choices.
