Former Delta Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, describing his passing as a great loss to Delta State and Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Monday by the State House, President Tinubu extended his condolences to the Uduaghan family, the Delta State Government and the people of the state, following the former governor’s death at the age of 71.
The President praised Uduaghan’s years of public service, noting that he dedicated his leadership to the development of Delta State and the service of the nation.
He recalled that the late Uduaghan served as Commissioner for Health, Secretary to the State Government and later as Governor of Delta State after his election in 2007.
According to Tinubu, Uduaghan’s two-term administration, which ended in 2015, played a significant role in the state’s political and developmental journey through improvements in infrastructure, healthcare and the welfare of the people.
The President also noted that Uduaghan remained active in Delta State’s political and socio-economic affairs after leaving office, contributing to democratic governance and public service.
“His passing is a great loss to his family, his community, Delta State, and the nation at large,” Tinubu said.
He urged the people of Delta State to draw strength from the late governor’s years of service and the lasting relationships he built across Nigeria’s political and social landscape.
On behalf of his family, the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria, the President extended his sympathies to Uduaghan’s wife, Roli, his children, his cousin and former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, as well as his friends and political associates.
Tinubu prayed for the peaceful repose of the former governor’s soul and asked God to grant comfort to everyone mourning his passing.
