Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have killed 48 suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists during separate operations in Borno and Yobe states.
The military also recovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition after successfully repelling coordinated attacks on two military locations between October 29 and 30, 2026.
The Acting Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Capt. Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
He said the first attack occurred on the night of October 29 when terrorists attempted to overrun troops’ position in Bitta, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to him, the troops, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, responded swiftly and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to retreat after suffering heavy casualties.
Goni added that in a separate operation, troops launched a strong counter-offensive against a large group of ISWAP fighters who attacked the North East Theatre Training School (NETTS) in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
He said the coordinated land and air operation ended with the elimination of 48 terrorists, while several weapons, ammunition and other combat items were recovered from the scene.
The military spokesman noted that the successful operations frustrated the terrorists’ plans to attack military formations and demonstrated the operational strength of troops fighting insurgency in the North-East.
Operation HADIN KAI has continued to intensify both ground and air offensives against Boko Haram and ISWAP strongholds as part of efforts to restore lasting peace to the region.
For more than a decade, the North-East has faced persistent attacks from Boko Haram and ISWAP, leading to thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions of people. Security forces have, however, sustained military operations to degrade the capabilities of the insurgent groups and improve security across the region.
