The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated the Flamingos for reaching the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final, saying the team’s achievements have given Nigerians hope at a time of widespread hardship.
In a statement titled “Obi Is Coming. Bring Joy to Nigerians Despite the Failures of APC,” the party praised the players for making history as the first African side to qualify for the final of the competition.
Signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq., the statement described the Flamingos’ 3-1 victory over Brazil as a landmark achievement after also defeating DPR Korea, Mexico and Venezuela during the tournament.
The NDC commended the players for recovering from an opening defeat to Poland and producing a string of outstanding performances to reach Saturday’s final against Japan.
The party said the team’s success had provided a welcome source of joy for Nigerians.
“You did our country proud. Your victories have lifted Nigerians from the hunger, poverty and sadness that the ruinous policies of the ruling party have imposed on them,” the statement said.
The opposition party urged the Flamingos to complete their historic journey by defeating Japan and bringing the World Cup trophy home.
“The NDC and Nigerians are fully behind you,” it added.
The statement concluded with the party’s campaign message: “A New Nigeria is Possible with NDC.”
