Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), calling for the immediate arrest and investigation of Mr. Abayomi Hunye over allegations that he has been presenting himself as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by the party on Tuesday, the APC described Hunye’s alleged actions as unlawful, claiming he has repeatedly identified himself across various media platforms as the party’s governorship flagbearer despite no such endorsement by the party.
According to the statement, Hunye was suspended from the APC on April 7, 2026, following a written petition submitted by members of his ward, Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The party further stated that the suspension was subsequently ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and officially communicated to the APC National Headquarters.
The APC urged the Nigeria Police Force to invite Hunye for questioning and conduct a thorough investigation into what it described as possible violations of Nigerian laws and the Electoral Act 2026.
The party maintained that the only duly recognised governorship and deputy governorship candidates of the APC in Ogun State for the 2027 election are Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan and Balogun Kudirat Abiodun, respectively.
The APC called on security agencies to take swift action to prevent what it described as acts capable of misleading the public and undermining the integrity of the electoral process.
