Troops of 8 Division, Nigeria Army Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA have invaded a known terrorists enclave in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing one of the terrorists, and recovering an AK 47 rifle, motorcycle and other weapons.
A statement on Sunday by the spokesperson of 8 Division, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba confirmed that the troops acting on credible intelligence, advanced towards the suspected terrorist camp in the vicinity of Karani village.
“Upon making contact with the hostile elements, the troops responded with decisive firepower, neutralizing one terrorist while others fled the scene”.
Clarifying the aftermath of the encounter, Lt. Col. Osoba said, “During the exploitation search of the camp, troops recovered the following items One (1) AK-47 rifle loaded with live ammunition, One (1) operational motorcycle, Military camouflage uniforms and Various maintenance tools and logistical supplies
“Following the encounter, troops executed clearance operations in the surrounding forest axis to dominate the general area and deny fleeing elements freedom of action”.
Speaking on the development, a local from Gudu, who spoke on condition of anonimty, appreciated the security agencies, saying their commitment to securing Nigeria against all odds in worth praying for.
He however appealed that such decisive actions against known terrorists hideouts should be extended to Tasura to Kudula forest, Marake to Jimajin forest and Bachaka to Kudula forest.
The local also appealed for sustained territorial relationship with the Republic of Niger secueiry, adding, because of the porous nature of the border, most of the terrorists often flee to Niger Republic when faced with severe pressure from the Nigerian Army.
