The Enugu State Police Command has arraigned Okpara Chibuike Emmanuel (male, aged 30), for the alleged murder of his 27-year-old girlfriend, Ugwu Chinyere Rosemary, in September 2026. He was arraigned on 16th October 2026, following the conclusion of investigations, and remanded in correctional custody by the court.
The court also ordered the transmission of the case file to the Attorney-General of Enugu State through the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for review and legal advice.
The suspect was arrested on 21st September 2026 after being rescued from an angry mob.
Investigations revealed that he allegedly murdered the victim in his apartment, on 19th September 2026, by striking her head with a pestle, inflicting deep cuts on her head and neck with a machete, and severing her right wrist.
The alleged crime reportedly followed an argument over who infected the other with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The severed wrist and other exhibits were recovered from the apartment.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating violent crime and ensuring the prompt prosecution of offenders.
