Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recovered a stolen Toyota Prado Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) within hours after it was reported missing in Abuja.
FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, said the vehicle was recovered through digital tracking technology, while one suspect was arrested in connection with the theft.
According to SP Adeh, the incident was reported at Garki Police Station on October 25, 2026, at about 8:20 a.m.
The owner of the vehicle, Mr. Haruna Alhaji, told the police that his dark ash Toyota Prado SUV, bearing registration number ABC 60 CZ X, was stolen from the parking lot of an event centre in Area 8, Garki.
Police operatives from Garki Division immediately launched an investigation after receiving the complaint.
Investigators later discovered that an unidentified man drove the vehicle out of the premises at about 3:10 p.m. without the owner’s knowledge.
Using digital tracking technology, police traced the SUV to the Garki area, where it was recovered at about 7:30 p.m. the same day.
The operation also led to the arrest of one Samaila Mamza, who is now in police custody.
The police spokesperson said the suspect would be charged to court after investigations are completed.
SP Adeh, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged residents to remain vigilant and protect their vehicles.
He advised vehicle owners to install tracking devices to make it easier for security agencies to recover stolen vehicles quickly.
The Commissioner also appealed to residents to report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
