Federal Government has assured parents and guardians that adequate measures have been put in place to guarantee the safety of students and staff as Federal Unity Colleges across the country resume for the new academic session on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The reassurance was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.
According to the ministry, all necessary arrangements have been concluded to ensure a smooth and secure reopening of the schools, while relevant security agencies have been placed on alert to maintain heightened surveillance around the colleges and their surrounding communities.
The minister said the Federal Government remains committed to creating a safe and conducive atmosphere for learning, stressing that the welfare of students and staff remains a top priority.
“The Federal Ministry of Education has reaffirmed that all Federal Unity Colleges nationwide will resume academic activities on Monday, September 14, 2026, as scheduled, assuring students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders that necessary arrangements are in place to support a safe, smooth and seamless commencement of the new academic session,” the ministry said.
The statement noted that the ministry is working closely with relevant security agencies to safeguard students, teachers and school communities as academic activities begin nationwide.
Alausa urged parents and guardians to remain calm, disregard unverified reports and continue preparations for their children and wards to resume school as scheduled.
He also directed principals and other school administrators to sustain close collaboration with security agencies and appropriate authorities to ensure an orderly and secure resumption across all Federal Unity Colleges.
The minister further appealed to students, parents, teachers and other stakeholders to work together in maintaining a peaceful, supportive and secure learning environment.
He added that the Federal Ministry of Education would continue to monitor developments across the country and, in partnership with relevant authorities, take necessary steps to ensure a smooth and safe resumption of academic activities.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education system by ensuring that every child has access to quality education in a safe and conducive learning environment.
