The Borno State Government House Maiduguri has been gutted by fire.
It was gathered that the inferno occurred at about 3PM on Tuesday, from one of the powerhouses where generators providing electricity for the entire Government House were situated.
Some personnel disclosed to our correspondent that the fire started from the generator which is about 400 metres away from the main building accomodating Governor Babagana Zulum’s office.
The inferno was reported to have instantly sparked up shortly after a technical staff was weldering some metallic objects, while a staff was said to be refilling the generator’s tank with fuel, when the fire sparked up and consumed the whole power house.
It was further learnt that the fire was put off shortly, by the combined efforts of the staff and fire service unit of the House and other units outside the government house.
However, the inferno did not extend to any other structure within the government house except the building of the power house and other accessories near the power house which is located by the fence behind of the Government house.
