Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has laid foundation stone for the construction of Gahua ultra-modern market in Bade Local Government Area of the state.
According to Buni, the market when completed is expected to boost the trade and commerce in the local government and the state in general.
He disclosed that the contract has been awarded to indigenous firm, Sabtech Tower’s Nigerian Limited at the total cost of N2, 430,063,180.09 to be completed within 12 months.
The governor, however, appealed to the community to give the contractor maximum support and cooperation required to enable them execute the project successfully within the time frame.
Speaking, Yobe state Commissioner of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Alhaji Barma Shetima, said Gashua has been the capital of Bade Local Government Area for the past 44 years but could not boast of a befitting and standard market.
It could be recalled that, during his inaugural speech on May 29, 2019, Governor Buni pledged to construct an ultra modern market in five major towns of the state including Gashua .
The Commissioner said the laying of foundation stone marks the fulfillment of the governor’s promise to the entire people of Gashua and the state at large.
He further explained that the market, which would be built on a six hectare land, will comprise of 505 shops, administrative block, refuse bank, roads, drainages, borehole, Mosque, perimeter wall fencing and external electrification.
“The new market will boost the economic activities of the local government and the state at large and also it will generate more revenue to both the state and local government as well as provide employment opportunity for the teeming populace,” Shettima said.
