Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke and Afrobeat singer, Davido
In a move that blends entertainment star power with sports development, the Osun State Government has appointed Afrobeats icon, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, as the Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund.
The state government described the appointment as part of its wider strategy to revitalize sports in Osun, including the ongoing renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, which aims to meet Olympic standards once completed.
Confirming the development, Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, announced Davido’s appointment during a meeting with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Osun Chapter.
Adewusi noted that the global music sensation gladly accepted the role, expressing confidence that Davido’s influence and connections would help attract investments and funding to boost sports across the state.
He also revealed that the government is at an advanced stage of establishing the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation.
