Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has made the Preliminary Register of Voters for the 2027 General Election available online, following concerns raised by Nigerians and other stakeholders over access to the register.
The commission said the decision is aimed at improving transparency and giving more eligible voters the opportunity to verify their details before the final register is published.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC said the physical display of the register had earlier taken place across Registration Areas nationwide from October 9 to October 15, 2026, in line with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026.
According to the statement, the exercise allowed registered voters to check their information and submit claims or objections where necessary.
INEC said it had taken note of public calls for the register to also be made available online to make the verification process easier for more Nigerians.
The commission said, “Accordingly, and in furtherance of its commitment to transparency, accessibility and public confidence in the electoral process, the Commission has decided to make available on its online platform display.inecnigeria.org the same Preliminary Register of Voters earlier displayed at the Registration Areas.”
It added that the online publication is only an additional measure to complement the physical display already conducted across the country.
INEC also said it is still processing claims and objections received during the display exercise in line with the Electoral Act, 2026.
The commission noted that the Final Register of Voters for the 2027 General Election will be certified and published on December 15, 2026.
The statement further said, “This additional measure complements the physical display already undertaken and is intended to facilitate wider public access to the Register. Meanwhile, the Commission continues to process claims and objections arising from the exercise in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2026, preparatory to the certification and publication of the Final Register of Voters on 15th December 2026.”
INEC thanked Nigerians and other stakeholders for their continued interest in the electoral process and assured the public of its commitment to conducting credible elections.
The commission said, “The Commission appreciates the continued interest and constructive engagement of Nigerians and stakeholders and reiterates its commitment to transparency, accountability and the faithful implementation of the Electoral Act, 2026 in delivering credible elections.”
The publication of the preliminary register is a key stage in Nigeria’s electoral process, giving voters the opportunity to verify their personal details and report errors before the final register is released for the 2027 general election.
