Lagos State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its campaign against violent crime with the arrest of four suspected armed robbers and the recovery of several items believed to have been stolen from victims.
The suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) following an intelligence-led operation targeting a robbery syndicate allegedly operating around the Iju-Ishaga and Oke-Aro areas of the state.
Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, im a statement on Tuesday, identified the suspects as Damilare Oluwatobi, 28; Lekan Adenuga, 30; Haruna Sheriff, 22; and David Balogun, 24.
SP Adebisi said the four men were tracked to their hideout in the Idi-Oro area of Mushin after sustained intelligence gathering, where they were arrested without incident.
According to her, a search of the hideout led to the recovery of 25 mobile phones, two laptop computers, a gold necklace, a pair of gold earrings and three cutlasses, which police believe may be linked to the gang’s activities.
She said the suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators, while efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the suspected criminal network.
Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, praised the operatives for their professionalism and intelligence-driven approach.
He lauded the team’s “swift response, intelligence-led investigation and successful arrest of the suspects.”
The commissioner also reaffirmed the command’s determination to rid Lagos of criminal gangs, stressing its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities through the Lagos State Police Command’s emergency lines as security agencies continue efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating within the state.
