Lagos State Police Command has identified the police inspector seen in a viral video making controversial remarks while travelling in a public vehicle and has commenced disciplinary action against him.
The Command, in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, identified the officer as Inspector Osumah Frank, adding that disciplinary procedures had already begun in line with the regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the Command, the officer’s comments were made in his personal capacity and do not reflect the position or official views of either the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.
The statement said: “The Command has commenced appropriate disciplinary action against the officer in line with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force; it also wishes to make it clear that the statements made by the officer were made in his personal capacity and do not represent the position, views or official disposition of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.”
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to professionalism and discipline, stressing that officers must conduct themselves responsibly at all times.
He said: “All personnel are expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times.”
The police commissioner added: “Wearing the Police uniform comes with a responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force, and the Command will not condone any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the Police.”
The Lagos State Police Command also restated its commitment to transparency, accountability and policing with humility and integrity, assuring residents that misconduct by officers would continue to attract appropriate sanctions in line with the law.
