Nigerian Navy personnel have uncovered about 98,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil and illegally refined diesel at three sites in Rivers State.
The Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Monday in Abuja.
The Naval Director said the products were discovered on October 10 in Okarki community, Ahoada West Local Government Area, during an operation by Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER under Operation DELTA SENTINEL.
Navy Captain Folorunsho said the naval team found about 65,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil and 33,000 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel.
He said the products were stored in about 12 dugout pits and containers across the three sites.
According to him, no arrests were made as the suspected operators fled before the naval team arrived.
The Navy said the sites and recovered products were handled in line with established procedures.
It said it would continue intelligence-led patrols to uncover illegal refining sites, stop the movement of suspected stolen petroleum products and track down those responsible.
