The Nigeria Red Cross Society (NRCS), Borno State’s branch has distributed food items to about 100 breast feeding vulnerable women selected from the host community of Maiduguri Metropolis.
The event which took place at the state’s Headquarters of NRCS in Wulari, Maiduguri, was part of its efforts to commorate the 2021 World Red Cross Day, with the theme: “Together we are unstoppable”.
NATIONAL ACCORD reports that the 8 of May of every year is being set aside as World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, to celebrate the principles, values, history and impact of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement world wide
The date also served as the anniversary of Henry Dunan’s birth in 1828, who is the founding father of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement with presence in 192 countries across the world.
Speaking at the event, The State Chairman of NRCS, Hon. Mohammed Kauji said: “The Red Cross Society is always ready to respond to emerging challenges and had supported victims and health workers during the outbreak of Covid 19 pandemic globally”.
Hon. Kauji, who noted that the donations were gotten from The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), explained that each of the beneficiary went home with 50kg of rice, 30kg of beans, 10 litres of cooking oil and 10gram of salt.
During the flag off, Hon. Kauji was supported by his Deputy, Dr Bulama Mali Gubio, State Secretary, Mohammed Zanna Barma and Finance and Planning Adviser Hajiya Najad l to launch the distribution and presentation of the items to each beneficiary.
In their reactions, some of the beneficiaries, expressed their gratitudes to The Nigerian Red Cross, while promising not to sell the items given to them.
