Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has called on the Federal Government and the Katsina State Government to conduct a thorough and independent investigation into the assassination of Islamic scholar, Sheikh Yahaya Masusuka, and ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.
The council made the demand in a statement issued on Monday, October 26, 2026, and signed by its president, Comrade Isah Abubakar, in which it condemned the killing and expressed grief over the death of the cleric.
The council described Sheikh Masusuka as a respected scholar and spiritual mentor whose teachings of the Holy Qur’an had made significant contributions to religious knowledge and guidance, particularly among young people in Northern Nigeria.
It said the assassination was not only a loss to his followers but also an attack on scholarship, religious guidance and the moral values of society, warning that the killing of prominent scholars should not be allowed to go unpunished.
The NYCN also expressed concern over what it described as persistent security failures and impunity surrounding high-profile killings in the country, referencing concerns raised by Amnesty International about the effectiveness of security institutions in protecting citizens and ensuring accountability.
The council called for an immediate, transparent and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing, including any security lapses and possible conspiracy that may have facilitated the crime.
It further urged the authorities to go beyond the arrest of suspected foot soldiers by identifying and prosecuting all those allegedly involved, including the masterminds, financiers and accomplices, stressing that justice would only be served when everyone found culpable was held accountable.
The council warned that Northern youths would continue to monitor the investigation and demand accountability from the relevant authorities. It also prayed for Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and ensure that those responsible for his death were brought to justice.
