Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep grief over the death of Chief Okey Ezibe, describing him as an elder brother, close friend and a man whose life touched many people.
Obi said he received the news of Ezibe’s death with shock and profound sadness on Sunday, September 20, 2026, noting that the late community leader’s passing is a painful loss to his family, friends, their community and everyone who knew him.
In a condolence message, Obi paid glowing tribute to Ezibe’s character, saying he would always remember his friendship, wise counsel, courage and kindness.
“Today, Sunday, 20th September 2026, with deepest sense of shock and profound sadness, I received the news of the death of my very dear elder brother, and friend Chief Okey Ezibe.”
He added: “His death is a great personal loss to me, to his family, to our community and to all who knew and valued him. I will deeply miss his very dear friendship, counsel, courage and the warmth with which he related with everyone around him.”
Obi prayed for God to comfort the bereaved family and everyone affected by the loss.
“I pray that Almighty God will grant him eternal rest and grant his family, friends and all of us who mourn him the strength and fortitude to bear this painful and irreparable loss.”
The former Anambra State governor also said the late Ezibe’s legacy and vision for a better Nigeria would continue to inspire many.
“Omeluora, rest in peace. Your memory will remain with us, and your dream of a New Nigeria will continue to live on.”
Chief Okey Ezibe was widely regarded by those close to him as a respected community leader and a trusted associate whose contributions earned him admiration across different circles. His death has continued to draw tributes from friends, associates and well-wishers who remember his commitment to service and nation-building.
