Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has opened discussions with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the omission of some of its governorship candidates from the commission’s final list of candidates for the 2027 elections.
The party said it was already engaging INEC to address the issue and ensure that the affected candidates are properly considered in line with existing electoral laws and guidelines.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the PDP said it was treating the development with the seriousness it deserved.
The party assured its members and supporters that it was working towards an amicable resolution of the matter through lawful means.
“The party is already engaging the Independent National Electoral Commission to resolve the omission of some of its candidates from the Commission’s final list of governorship candidates for the 2027 elections,” the statement said.
It also called on affected candidates, party members and supporters to remain calm and exercise patience while discussions with INEC continue.
The concern followed the publication of INEC’s final list of governorship candidates on the commission’s website, where candidates for Ogun and Gombe states were listed without any candidate from the PDP.
The published list featured 13 governorship candidates in Ogun State and 16 candidates in Gombe State, but the PDP had no candidate included in either state.
Among the notable PDP candidates affected by the omission are Ladi Adebutu, the party’s governorship candidate in Ogun State, and Isa Ali Pantami in Gombe State.
The PDP has continued to stress the importance of a transparent electoral process, insisting that all political parties and candidates must be given equal opportunity to participate in elections.
INEC is expected to review the concerns raised by the party as preparations continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
