Kaduna State Police Command has rescued three kidnapped victims during a gun duel with suspected bandits at Gidan Mijin Gwaggo, Durum, in Makarfi Local Government Area of the state.
The operation followed credible intelligence received by the Command on Thursday, August 21, 2026, at about 10am, regarding suspicious movements around the community.
Acting on the information, the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, directed the Divisional Police Officer, Makarfi Division, to lead a patrol team, in collaboration with local vigilantes, to the area.
The security team came under fire from the suspected kidnappers upon arrival at the location, prompting the operatives to engage the assailants in a fierce gun battle.
The police and vigilantes reportedly overpowered the suspects, forcing them to retreat into the surrounding bushes with gunshot injuries.
During a subsequent search of a house belonging to one Yakubu Sule, the security team discovered that the building had allegedly been used as a hideout by the suspected bandits.
The search led to the rescue of three kidnap victims, including Alhaji Hamza Shuaibu Gimi, who were reportedly being held captive in the house.
The victims were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their families.
A Boxer motorcycle suspected to have been used by the kidnappers was also recovered from the premises, while security operatives continued efforts to track down the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police commended the police personnel and local vigilantes for their prompt response and effective collaboration, assuring residents of Makarfi and other parts of Kaduna State of the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that community cooperation remains crucial to denying criminals safe havens and protecting lives and property.
