Brazil have officially entered a new chapter after handing their famous No. 10 shirt to Barcelona forward Raphinha following the end of Neymar’s long reign with the iconic jersey.
The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed the change in its latest squad announcement, with Raphinha taking over the legendary number after wearing No. 11 during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The No. 10 shirt is one of the most respected jerseys in world football. It has been worn by Brazilian legends including Pelé, Zico, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho before Neymar made it his own for 16 years.
Neymar leaves behind an outstanding international career, scoring 79 goals to become Brazil’s all-time leading scorer. His departure from the famous shirt signals the beginning of a new era for the South American giants.
For Raphinha, the responsibility comes at a time when his role on the pitch has also changed.
The Barcelona star has gradually moved from playing mainly as a winger to operating in a more central attacking position under coach Hansi Flick.
Speaking about his development, Raphinha said: “My transition to striker was a gradual process over the last two years. I like it because it’s working wonderfully.”
His new role has made him one of Barcelona’s most influential players, combining creativity, pressing, movement and goals while becoming a key figure in the Spanish club’s attack.
The same qualities are expected to play an important role as Brazil begin another cycle under new head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Although stars, like Vinicius Junior, Endrick and Estevao were also seen as possible successors to the famous No. 10 shirt, the federation chose Raphinha, reflecting his growing importance to the national team.
While Raphinha now wears No. 10, Vinicius Junior keeps the No. 7 jersey, Endrick takes No. 9 and Estevao moves into No. 11.
Raphinha is expected to make his first appearance in the famous shirt when Brazil face Australia in Townsville on Friday, giving fans their first glimpse of the country’s new No. 10 in action.
For decades, Brazil’s No. 10 jersey has symbolised creativity, leadership and football excellence. By handing it to Raphinha, the five-time world champions are placing their trust in a player whose performances and growing influence have earned him one of football’s greatest honours.
With Neymar’s era now over, Brazil will hope Raphinha can write the next successful chapter in the history of the nation’s most celebrated shirt.
