Worried by the increasing degree of insecurity in Sokoto State, especially the Eastern Senatorial district and its environs lately, Sokoto State Government has convened a multi stakhokders meeting geared towards finding lasting solution to the menace.
The Sokoto stakeholders security meeting, being the first of its kind in the state was organized by Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as a noble platform to genuinely discourse and bring forth workable solutions to the rising threat.
Speaking to newsmen in a passionate manner, Governor Tambuwal said his greatest happiness was the fact that all stakeholders in Sokoto were present irrespective of political differences, or ideological belief.
Tambuwal who reiterated that security situation should and must not be politicized for whatever reason, added that, “When we conceived the idea of this meeting, we noted that all must be invited regardless of political parties, sect and ideological inclination”
The governor, while adding that the essence of the stakeholders meeting was geared towards hearing from all on how best to overcome the security challenges, noted that all hands must be on deck to help curtail the ugly menace.
He further divulged that a top level committee on how to overcome the security challenges in the state has been constituted and chaired by The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar 111.
Governor Tambuwal, however, noted that because of the exigency of the situation, the Sultan led commiittee on insecurity is to report back its recommendation within one week.
Those in attendance at the Sokoto Stakeholder’s security meeting include – former Governor Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, (PDP), former governor and now Senator, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, (APC), Senators Ibrahim Danbaba (PDP), Senator Andullahi Gobir (APC), Hoise of Reps members from both the APC amd PDP, State House of Assembly members from both APC amd PDP.
The Police Affairs Minister, Maigari Dingyadi was represented by Ali Janga, the AIG Zone 10. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya was represented by the GOC 8 Div, Maj General Usman Yusuf.
Comptroller’s of Customs, Immigration, as well as Commandant of FRCN, and other religious leaders from across the state were all in attendance.
